New Cultural Contact Point appointment.

Glen Calleja was recently appointed Cultural Contact Point(CCP) for Malta within the Culture and Audiovisual Unit at the Office of the Prime Minister. 

Mr Calleja has, for many years, been active in various cultural sectors, including the literary sector, contemporary theatre and creative services, both as a practitioner and as organiser. He also has a number of years experience in journalism and public relations.

Mr Calleja is a psychology and philosophy graduate with a second degree in Near Eastern Studies.

The CCP (Malta) office will be undertaking a number of initiatives to increase the number of Maltese artists and cultural operators who benefit from the Culture Programme and similar funding opportunities.

The new CULTURE PROGRAMME (2007-2013), which has replaced the Culture 2000 Programme in 2007, is the main financial tool used by the EU to encourage European culture in its diverse areas.

The central objective of the Programme is to encourage the emergence of European citizenship; the cultural area shared by Europeans, based on a common heritage, is enhanced by the Programme through the development of cooperation projects between cultural operators from different European countries.

Throughout this seven year period, the Culture Programme will provide a total budget of EUR 400 million for quality projects able to encourage innovation and creativity and provide real European added value. Operators from all cultural sectors (except audiovisual) are welcome to take part in this Programme.

N.B. From 2009, an important change has taken place in the application process of the Programme: apart from the paper forms to be sent by post mail, the Agency introduced an electronic form to be submitted online.
