Great success for 2008 European Heritage Days supported by the EU
Around 20 millions of people visited more than 30.000 sites and monuments opened to the public in 49 countries throughout September in occasion of the 2008 European Heritage Days. Instituted in 1991 and conjointly supported by the Council of Europe and the European Commission, the European Heritage Days have now become a solid tradition. With the approaching of the end of the initiative, a press conference was held by Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, Ján Figel'together, Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, Director General Director General Education, Culture and Heritage, Youth and Sport in the Council of Europe with the aim to draw the attention to the European dimension of the days and to present case studies on how heritage can contribute in a practical way to life in multicultural societies.
