Chosen the laureates of the 2009 European Union Border Breakers Awards (EBBA'S)

Finally, the ten debut artists to receive 2009 European Border Breaker Awards (EBBA's) in Groningen, the Netherlands have been chosen. Their awards will be granted during a show to be presented by Jools Holland in Groningen on 15 January 2009. The show will be covered on television and will highlight the following award winners' cross border success:

Adele
(UK) - “19” (XL Recordings / V2)
Alphabeat (DK) – “Alphabeat” (Kopenhagen Records / EMI)
Cinema Bizarre (DE) – “Final Attraction” (Islands Records)
The Dø (FR) – “A Mouthfull” (Cinq 7)
AaRon(FR) –“Artificial Animals Riding on Neverland” (Discograph)
Kraak & Smaak – “Boogie Angst” (PIAS)
Ida Corr – “One” (Kick Music)
Lykke Li (SE) – “Youth Novels” (LL Recordings / Warner)
The Script (IRL) – “The Script” (Phonogenic Music / Sony)
The Ting Tings (UK) – “We Started Nothing” (Columbia Records / Sony)

Winners of this award were selected on the following criteria:

  1. Original debut album of artists or groups from an EU Member State
  2. Sales in EU Member states outside the country of production
  3. Sales during the last year (between September 2007 and 31 August 2008)
  4. Airplay on EBU radio stations
  5. Experience in touring outside the country of origin and ability to perform live

Former winners of an European Union Border Breaker Award include artists such as Carla Bruni, Tokio Hotel, Damien Rice, The Thrills, Gabriel Rios, The Fratellis, Basshunter, Dolores O’ Riordan and many more.
